| Original text | Εκεί στο χορό μπορούσε κανείς να κάμη και πρόταση γάμου σε μια κοπέλλα ως εξής: Της πετούσε μπροστά της ένα μαντήλι. Αν η κοπέλλα το έπαιρνε και το κρατούσε εις τα χέρια ήτο σημείον αποδοχής της προτάσεως και ο υποψήφιος μπορούσε να την ζητήσει από τους ιδικούς της. |
| English translation | During the dance one could make a marriage proposal: He would throw a kerchief in front of her. If the girl picked it up and held it in her hands, it was a sign of her approval for the proposal, and the candidate could ask her family for her hand. |
